There are more than 13,000 local elected positions in the state of Wisconsin and each of those offices have more of an immediate impact on many of our lives than any other branch or level of government. If we can grow power on our city councils, school boards, and county boards we can strengthen our communities and preserve the progress made at the local level, despite other levels of government interfering with local control.
By taking back local governments we can ensure that local development projects go to unionized shops and that workers are paid a living wage. By taking back local governments, we can make sure our public and technical schools have the funding they need to train the future workforce. By taking back local governments, we can make sure that every day people have a say in how their tax dollars are spent through open government. Finally, by taking back local governments we can grow the base of progressive leadership to run for higher office in the future.
Wisconsin Progress believes that best way to build progressive power is to invest in our local governments. Our mission has always been to recruit, train, and elect progressive candidates for state and local office, but we believe that this mission is more important now than it has ever been. 70% of our candidates go on to become change makers in their communities. Becoming a Wisconsin Progress local candidate sets you up for success to do the work that our communities so desperately need. It’s time we step up for workers and their families to promote the values that we hold so dear.
We can’t do this without your help. Union members are the backbone of America and Wisconsin. The perspective they offer and the experiences they have are invaluable to the communities they reside in. If you or someone you know is interested in running for local office or wants to help a friend run for office, please contact us at email@example.com.
